OpenForms Use Case: Payment Processing Forms

Online payments are the rule, not the exception, for customers. It’s not just more convenient for them, it means faster revenue collection for your city. Processing transactions over the counter is one of the most expensive interactions a government can have—in addition to the inherent security and loss risks that come with handling credit cards and paper forms.

Easily add payments to any online form

With OpenForms, you can easily add payment processing to any online form. Use auto calculations based on customer responses, from the most basic to complex estimates, and provide users with fee or charge information instantly, instead of referring them to a confusing pricing table. OpenForms also offers unparalleled security with HTTPS / SSL + PCI DSS compliance, and support for the many of the most popular payment gateways and banks.

Success with online payment processing forms

As a membership driven organisation, Zoo’s NSW places a critical focus on ease of sign-up and payment for members and visitors. With a costly 30% abandonment rate in the sign-up process, Zoo’s NSW went to market for a better payment experience.

Using OpenForms, Zoo’s NSW created an easy process for new members to sign-up, and existing members to renew their membership. Using logic and calculations, new members can add further members and upgrades to their subscription, increase subscription value.

And using integrations, Zoo’s NSW enabled existing members to enter their membership number, to retrieve and renew their current membership details from an internal system, all through OpenForms. Since launch, Zoo’s NSW has seen an increase in new registrations and renewals, whilst reducing customer complaints.

“Melton City Council had several paper forms that were used to process payments. It was becoming tedious for staff members to action these forms – and for residents to complete them – causing a loss of revenue for the council. Because OpenForms supports the payment gateways we use out of the box, we could pretty much stand-up online payments for anything we needed. Just one of our forms saw over 4,500 submissions and produced over $700,000 in revenue within the first year of going live. And because our teams no longer need to process credit card payments, there’s no manual chasing up of unpaid applications.”

Donna Liddicoat, Melton City Council

“Before OpenForms, we just wanted to digitise our PDF’s. But when we started using OpenForms, we realised its not just about putting PDF’s online, but about improving the entire process experience. Bin Payments offered over 48 different pricing variables based on the number and types of bins the customer needed, whether they want bins delivered, if they are eligible for discounts, and pro-rata pricing based on the time of year the bins were ordered. Inevitably, this created confusion for many customers, driving more phone-calls, or inaccurately completed and priced paper forms. Using OpenForms Smart Logic combined with Payment Processing, the entire Bin Application process was shifted online.”

Chris Campbell, City of Tea Tree Gully
